BLOOMINGTON – A Bloomington man who is taking on the NCAA over the head injuries he received in college said he won’t stop until today’s football players get the help they need.

Adrian Arrington, 28, said he opposes a proposed $70 million settlement the college governing body struck in a class-action lawsuit. Arrington is the lead plaintiff and said he’d like to see some help offered to those like him stuck with massive medical bills.

“In general (the NCAA should) help people who are struggling to live a normal life with mental injuries because if you leave college with a brain injury, that degree is a waste of your time,” Arrington said “You can’t be a productive citizen in America.”

Arrington who has daughters ages 5 and 8, said he still has lingering effects from concussions he got while playing at Eastern Illinois University and he’s only now been cleared to hold a regular job.

Arrington said NCAA should cover the medical costs of those on an athletic scholarship and strengthen return-to-play rules to prevent repeat head injuries.

“I found out the NCAA seems like a money-hungry, greedy business instead of (working for) the betterment of student athletes and their dreams,” Arrington said.

Arrington said he didn’t even know about the settlement until his dad read about it in the newspaper. He’s seeking new representation.
