EUREKA – A Bloomington woman who is serving an eight-year prison sentence for killing her husband last year is asking a judge to reduce her prison term.

An attorney for Sarah Mellor filed the motion in Woodford County court. Meller, a former Bloomington High School teacher, was sentenced last month after admitting to stabbing her husband, Mark Mellor, to death at a private campground near Carlock last October. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder.

A judge will consider the request at a Sept. 5 hearing.

Mellor is serving her sentence at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln.

Illinois poet Vachel Lindsay…

I was a grade-schooler during the Civil Rights 1960s. I watched Birmingham demonstrators hosed and the Selma – Montgomery…

Workers’ Memorial Day – Remember those whose job took their life

Looking around our community, when we say employer, most will respond to State Farm, Country, or Illinois State University.   We too often forget those who are building our roads, serving our food, or our public employees. COVID-19 has made us more aware of the risk.  Going to work every day for some people means…
