Fourth Local DACA protest held outside BCPA

A large crowd of demonstrators could be heard near downtown Bloomington Tuesday evening… chanting in Spanish, “yes we can!”

It’s the latest rally protesting the Trump Administration’s plans to phase out DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

The group Stand Up for Social Justice organized the protest, which attracted about 150 people outside of the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts.

This is the fourth local rally in the past week aimed at protecting DACA.

Organizer Julie Prandi says it’s more important than ever for people to lobby their representatives to pass the Dream Act.

“The urgency’s now on, I think, to pass the Dream Act and we’re not going to get comprehensive immigration reform in six months. That’s not realistic.But I think it is realistic to pass the Dream Act,” says Prandi.

Prandi says it’s the organization’s goal to stage a rally each month to create a dialogue about key issues including DACA.
